When you delete a file, the operating system does not delete file contents from the disk - it just mark the file as deleted in file allocation table, but the data of the file is still in your hard disk. There are many tools available which can let anybody easily recover your sensitive files.. The file contents remains on disk until another file happens to overwrite it. Advanced hardware recovery tools, may even restore overwritten files by analyzing latent magnetic traces. Even after the Recycle Bin has been emptied or the hard drive has been formatted, data can still be recovered unless it has been erased by a Data Eraser.
